Lubbock, TX – Showers and scattered thunderstorms are moving across the South Plains this morning, creating slick roads and slower commutes for Columbus Day travelers. Drivers on U.S. Highway 84 and I-27 should plan for reduced visibility during early rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, widespread rain will taper off by this afternoon, giving way to clearer skies by Tuesday. While light showers linger near the Rolling Plains, forecasters say no severe weather or flooding is expected.

By Wednesday, sunshine returns with highs near 81°F — a welcome warm-up after a damp start to the week. Winds from the south will range between 10 to 15 mph, keeping conditions pleasant for outdoor events and pumpkin patch visits.

Thursday brings another sunny day with only a slight 20% chance of isolated afternoon showers. The weekend looks ideal for fall activities, including leaf-viewing drives and Halloween prep, with highs holding in the low 80s through Saturday.

Five-Day Forecast (Oct. 13–18):

  • Monday: Showers likely, high near 75°F.
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high near 81°F.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, high near 81°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly clear, slight chance of showers, high near 81°F.
  • Friday–Saturday: Clear and mild, highs in the low 80s.
