San Angelo, TX – Drivers across the Concho Valley and Big Country are urged to use caution today as dense fog, scattered showers, and a fast-moving arctic cold front impact much of West Central Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 4 p.m. this afternoon. While fog conditions remain patchy, meteorologists report visibility has dropped below one-half mile in several areas. Light to moderate rain showers are also spreading across much of the region, adding to hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service says an arctic cold front is running ahead of schedule, already moving into the Big Country late this morning. Temperatures have fallen sharply behind the front, with Weinert dropping to 37 degrees and Haskell plunging to 40 degrees, accompanied by wind gusts up to 25–30 mph.

Forecasters expect the front to move through the Interstate 20 corridor between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., reaching San Angelo, Brady, and Brownwood between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The front is forecast to clear the Interstate 10 corridor by around 6 p.m.

Behind the front, temperatures are expected to drop quickly, with brisk north winds making it feel colder through the evening. Winds are forecast to increase to 25–30 mph, which could further reduce visibility in open areas.

Residents are encouraged to slow down, use low-beam headlights in fog, and allow extra travel time this afternoon. Those with evening plans should prepare for colder conditions and gusty winds.

More updates are expected as conditions evolve throughout the day.
