Abilene, TX – After a fall-like weekend, summer-like heat is set to return to West Central Texas early this week, with near-record highs expected on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Abilene/San Angelo, afternoon temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s Monday, accompanied by southwest winds up to 25 mph. These conditions will create elevated fire weather risks, particularly for areas around Abilene, San Angelo, and nearby rural counties.
Forecasters warn that the combination of dry air, warm temperatures, and gusty winds could make outdoor burning hazardous. The public is urged to avoid any open flames or outdoor burning through Tuesday.
By Tuesday, a weak cold front will bring slightly cooler air, dropping highs back into the upper 70s to lower 80s, though fire concerns will remain elevated until humidity levels rise midweek.
Conditions are expected to moderate by Wednesday, with cooler mornings in the 40s and 50s and more seasonable highs in the 80s under mostly sunny skies.
