MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Blustery north winds are sweeping across the Mid-South Monday, with gusts topping 40 mph expected to persist into the evening hours. The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Wind Advisory through 9 p.m. CDT, covering much of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee.
According to the NWS, sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with occasional stronger gusts may down tree limbs and lead to scattered power outages. High-profile vehicles could have difficulty maintaining control on open highways, particularly along I-40 and U.S. 78.
Residents in cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, Oxford, and Dyersburg are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid parking under large trees. Utility crews across the region remain on alert in case of downed lines.
Drivers are advised to keep both hands on the wheel and use extra caution, especially on elevated bridges or when passing trucks. Winds are expected to gradually diminish later tonight, though breezy conditions could linger into early Tuesday morning.
Warnings remain in effect through 9 p.m.
