Memphis, TN – Strong storms developing as early as 1 p.m. today could bring damaging wind gusts over 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, creating immediate risks for drivers and power outages across the Mid-South through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Level 2 risk is in place Friday, with scattered severe storms moving northwest to southeast across West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, and north Mississippi. Damaging winds are the primary concern, though a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms will impact major routes including I-40, I-55, and I-240 during peak travel hours.

Conditions briefly ease overnight before another round develops late Sunday. This second wave carries a lower but still notable risk, mainly after sunset, with isolated severe storms capable of producing strong wind gusts.

The most significant threat arrives Monday, when a Level 3 risk covers much of the region, including Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Dyersburg. Storms are expected to become more widespread and intense Monday afternoon into the night, with large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes possible. Outdoor plans, school activities, and evening commutes may be disrupted.

Residents should charge devices, secure loose outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. The severe threat continues through late Monday night, and additional alerts are likely as timing and storm intensity become clearer.
