Binghamton, NY – Dry roads will quickly turn slick late tonight as steady rain pushes into the Southern Tier after 10 p.m., setting up a wet and potentially disruptive Saturday across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, rain will spread from southwest to northeast between midnight and 6 a.m. Saturday, with widespread steady rainfall continuing through Saturday night. Rainfall totals will reach 1 to 1.5 inches in cities including Binghamton, Elmira, Scranton, and Wilkes-Barre, with 0.5 to 1 inch farther north toward Syracuse and Utica.
Travel impacts are likely along I-81, I-86, and Route 17, especially during Saturday morning and evening. Ponding on roadways and reduced visibility could slow traffic, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. A few wet snowflakes may mix in across higher elevations of the Catskills and northern Poconos Saturday evening, though no accumulation is expected.
Friday remains relatively mild and quiet, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s across the region, including 64 in Binghamton and 60 in Syracuse. Conditions deteriorate rapidly overnight as rain overspreads the area.
