Memphis, Tennessee – Tennessee residents should brace for steamy afternoons and a rising risk of thunderstorms as a wave of heat and humidity settles in through Sunday, June 22.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will climb steadily across the state this week, reaching near 90 degrees by Friday and Saturday. Paired with high humidity, heat index values could soar to 105 degrees next weekend, making outdoor activity potentially dangerous without precautions.
Cities including Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Tupelo can expect daily afternoon showers and thunderstorms, especially between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. These storms could bring brief downpours and localized gusty winds, affecting travel on major routes like I-40 and I-55. Power outages and flash flooding are also possible in low-lying urban areas.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Charge mobile devices and prepare for possible short-term power disruptions, particularly during evening storm windows.
This prolonged humid pattern is typical of mid-June but will feel more intense due to the high dew points and stagnant air. The NWS may issue heat advisories later in the week if conditions worsen.
More updates are expected by midweek as temperatures peak and storm patterns evolve.
