Memphis, Tennessee – A wintry mix will spread into the Mid-South late Monday, bringing slick roads from east Arkansas into west Tennessee and southeast Missouri as light ice and sleet develop during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Snow and sleet totals may approach an inch in spots, with a light glaze of ice expected across counties including Crittenden, Dyer, Gibson, Obion, Mississippi, Dunklin, and Pemiscot.

Roads along U.S. 51, I-40 near West Memphis, and U.S. 412 through Dyersburg and Jackson may become slippery quickly after sunset, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural stretches. Communities from Paragould to Union City and Camden could see the most consistent icing as temperatures drop early this evening.

Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down and allow extra braking distance, with particular caution advised for anyone traveling during the evening rush. Pedestrians should also watch for ice on steps and sidewalks as conditions deteriorate.

The wintry mix will taper before daybreak Tuesday, but slick spots may linger into the early morning hours. The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
