Memphis, Tennessee – Strong winds sweeping across the Mid-South Sunday could make travel difficult before a sharp overnight temperature drop brings a damaging freeze to the region early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday across parts of West Tennessee, East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and southeast Missouri. Southwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph could blow around unsecured objects, break tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages.

Cities including Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, Dyersburg, Southaven, Oxford, and Blytheville may experience the strongest wind gusts during the afternoon and evening hours. Drivers on major routes such as Interstate 40, Interstate 55, and U.S. Highway 64 should use caution, especially in high-profile vehicles.

Conditions will shift quickly overnight as colder air arrives. A Freeze Warning takes effect from 4 a.m. to noon Monday, with temperatures expected to drop to around 27°F, cold enough to damage sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.

Forecasters are also monitoring a Freeze Watch Monday night into Tuesday morning, when temperatures could fall as low as 19°F in some areas.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items Sunday and take steps to protect plants and exposed pipes before temperatures plunge early Monday.
