Lexington, TN – Residents in Henderson and Decatur counties are under a Cold Weather Advisory from midnight Saturday night through 9 a.m. Sunday, as wind chills fall to dangerous levels across West Tennessee, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis.

According to NWS meteorologists, wind chills may drop to around 5 degrees, affecting communities including Lexington, Parsons, and Decaturville. Officials warn that frostbite and hypothermia can occur if residents remain outdoors without protecting exposed skin.

The coldest window will occur just before sunrise Sunday, when temperatures dip into the teens and winds increase slightly behind a strong high-pressure system pushing cold air into the region. While the advisory is short in duration, NWS officials stress that even brief exposure can be hazardous for individuals without adequate winter clothing.

Safety guidance includes dressing in layers, wearing hats and gloves, and using caution when traveling outdoors. Pet owners are encouraged to keep animals indoors or ensure warm shelter is available, as the cold may be harmful even for outdoor-adapted pets.

More updates will be provided as the weekend event approaches.
