Miami, Fla. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will blanket much of South Florida Monday, raising the risk of localized flooding in urban and low-lying neighborhoods. The National Weather Service in Miami reports widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is likely, with some areas seeing more than 3 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, the most active period of storms is expected through the afternoon and evening hours, with the strongest storms capable of producing torrential rain and minor street flooding. Rain chances sit above 85% for Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, with Naples and Homestead slightly lower but still near 80%.
Travel may be slowed on major roadways, including I-95, I-75, and the Florida Turnpike, as ponding on roads becomes more widespread. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded intersections, secure outdoor belongings, and keep devices charged in case of power outages.
Temperatures will remain steamy despite the storms, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 across the region. Additional rounds of showers are likely midweek as tropical moisture lingers.
Flood advisories remain possible into the night, with more updates expected from the National Weather Service.
