Will County, IL – The Will County Health Department has confirmed the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) in mosquitoes across four communities: Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood, and Lockport. Additionally, a dead bird in Crest Hill tested positive for the virus. Residents are advised to take precautions against mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases.
WNV can cause mild flu-like symptoms but can lead to severe illness in some cases. Preventive steps include using EPA-registered insect repellents, wearing protective clothing, and ensuring windows and doors have tight-fitting screens.
