Grand Rapids, MI – Drivers across west and southwest Michigan are facing hazardous winter travel conditions Friday morning as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST, bringing accumulating snow and strong winds to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, areas along and inland from the Lake Michigan shoreline could see additional snowfall of 1 to 4 inches, accompanied by wind gusts up to 45 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.

The advisory includes Lake and Mason counties, where snowfall totals may reach up to 4 inches, impacting communities such as Ludington and Baldwin. Farther south, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo counties are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow, affecting cities including Muskegon, Holland, Grand Haven, Jenison, South Haven, and Kalamazoo.

Officials warn that slippery road conditions could significantly impact the Friday morning commute, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Gusty winds may cause drifting snow in open areas, further reducing traction and visibility.

Travelers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Road conditions may improve later this afternoon as snowfall tapers off and road crews continue treatment efforts.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and check traffic conditions before heading out. Those traveling along lakeshore routes should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
