Grand Rapids, MI – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of west and southwest Michigan, where periods of lake-effect snow will continue through 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

The advisory covers Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo Counties, including Ludington, Holland, South Haven, Grand Haven, and Kalamazoo. Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of additional snow, with locally higher totals possible under stronger snow bands.

While a previous Winter Storm Warning has been canceled, snow will persist throughout the day, making for slick and snow-covered roads. Drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, including sudden drops in visibility during heavier lake-effect bands.

The heaviest snow is likely near the Lake Michigan shoreline, gradually tapering off tonight as winds shift and colder air moves out.

Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, especially on highways such as I-96, I-196, and US-31, where conditions may vary over short distances.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Sunday.
