Grand Rapids, MI – A significant winter storm is moving across west and southwest Michigan this morning, bringing heavy snow, blowing snow, and rapidly deteriorating road conditions through 10 AM Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids.

Two Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect, each covering different zones of the region:

Central, West-Central & South-Central Michigan

Counties including Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Barry, Eaton, and Ingham are forecast to receive 7–10 inches of snow. Cities impacted include Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Big Rapids, Greenville, and Jackson.
Visibility may drop below ¼ mile at times due to falling and blowing snow, creating dangerous travel conditions—especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural roads.

Southwest Michigan & Lakeshore Counties

Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun Counties—including Holland, Grand Haven, South Haven, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek—are expected to see the heaviest totals, with 9–12 inches by Sunday morning.
Snow band intensity and proximity to Lake Michigan may increase snowfall rates through the afternoon and evening, with poor visibility and drifting snow likely.

Across all warned areas, NWS urges residents to delay travel if possible. For those who must drive, officials recommend slowing down, increasing following distance, and preparing for sudden whiteout conditions. Vehicles should be fully winterized, and emergency supplies such as food, water, blankets, and a flashlight are strongly encouraged.

The snow will continue through tonight before tapering late Sunday morning.
