LANSING, Mich. – A crisp autumn night will bring frosty conditions to much of central and western Michigan overnight tonight, from midnight until 9AM Friday, as temperatures fall close to the freezing mark under clear skies and calm winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Frost Advisory remains in effect for Lake, Osceola, Clare, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ionia, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Calhoun, and Jackson counties. Temperatures will drop to around 31 degrees, cold enough to damage tender vegetation and end the growing season in some rural areas.

Forecasters warn that frost could harm sensitive outdoor plants, and residents are urged to cover gardens, bring potted plants indoors, and disconnect hoses or sprinkler systems before midnight. Farmers and gardeners in Mount Pleasant, Ionia, Alma, Battle Creek, Lansing, and Big Rapids should prepare for widespread frost by dawn.

According to meteorologists, the combination of clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to tumble quickly overnight, particularly in low-lying and rural areas. Drivers may encounter patchy frost on windshields early Friday.

Warmer afternoons are expected over the weekend, though nights will remain chilly. Another round of frost is possible early next week as another weak front crosses the Great Lakes.
