Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers are returning to West Michigan today as lake effect bands push inland from Lake Michigan, bringing the potential for several inches of accumulation along the lakeshore.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the heaviest snow is expected near Pentwater and Ludington, where totals could reach 4 to 6 inches by tonight. Lighter accumulations, ranging from a dusting to 2 inches, are forecast farther south toward Kalamazoo and inland areas.
Forecasters warn that roads will become snow-covered and slippery, particularly near the lakeshore where visibility may drop quickly under heavier snow bands. Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time for the evening commute.
Snowfall is expected to taper off late tonight as winds shift and the lake effect weakens. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-30s throughout the day, keeping conditions icy in spots.
Officials urge drivers to monitor local forecasts for changing road conditions and to exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, where ice may form first.
