GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids reports that a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Mason and Oceana counties, including Ludington and Hart, until 4 a.m. Tuesday as heavy lake effect snow continues across the region.
Forecasters say 3 to 5 additional inches of snow are expected overnight, with rapidly changing visibility and road conditions due to narrow snow bands coming off Lake Michigan.
The NWS cautions that travel could be very difficult, particularly during the Monday evening commute and overnight hours. Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, and food.
Lake effect snow is known for producing sharp contrasts in weather conditions—some areas may see heavy snow and near whiteouts, while nearby locations experience clearer skies. Motorists should remain alert for these rapid changes.
The snow is expected to taper off by early Tuesday morning, but slick and icy roads could linger into the Tuesday morning drive.
