GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A cold fog blankets the region this morning, muting headlights and frosting windshields as temperatures hover near freezing. Drivers across southwest Lower Michigan should brace for slick bridges and limited visibility through daybreak before the haze slowly lifts into sunshine by late morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Special Weather Statement remains in effect for dense fog stretching from Kalamazoo to Grand Haven and north through Ionia and Lansing. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times, particularly along I-96 and US-131. With pavement near freezing, motorists are urged to reduce speed and allow extra braking distance — patchy ice may linger on overpasses and shaded stretches through sunrise.

By this afternoon, skies will brighten with highs reaching the lower 50s. A southwest wind will pick up later tonight, gusting to near 40 mph along the lakeshore. Monday will turn breezy and mild, with another system bringing scattered light showers late in the day before clearing again Tuesday.

Longer-range models show Michigan staying relatively mild through midweek under a weak La Niña influence. However, colder intrusions remain likely later in November, with the potential for lake-effect snow to return before Thanksgiving.

For now, the pattern holds steady — a foggy, frosty start giving way to sunshine and gusty breezes, a true taste of early November across the Great Lakes.
