Grand Rapids, MI – Residents across southern and western Michigan should prepare for potentially strong thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

Meteorologists say a few storms could become strong to severe south of I-96, producing wind gusts up to 60 mph, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Areas near Battle Creek may also face a brief, weak tornado risk, though forecasters note the chance is low.

According to the National Weather Service, localized flooding may occur in low-lying or flood-prone areas as storms move through this afternoon and evening. The agency added that additional rounds of heavy rain could develop overnight and continue into Sunday, increasing the potential for saturated ground and minor flooding.

Drivers are urged to watch for ponding water, especially on highways and intersections, and to secure outdoor items that could be blown around by strong winds.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and stay updated through local forecasts and emergency notifications as conditions evolve through the weekend.
