Grand Rapids, MI – Rainfall totals across West Michigan reached nearly two inches in some areas after steady showers swept through the region overnight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids.
The heaviest rainfall occurred along and west of the US 131 corridor, with Grand Rapids reporting 1.85 inches and nearby communities receiving similar amounts. According to NWS data, Grandville recorded 1.58 inches, Zeeland saw 1.68 inches, and Holland measured 1.24 inches. Lighter totals were observed farther north and east, with Ludington reporting 0.76 inches.
Forecasters noted the rain was generally beneficial, easing dry conditions in parts of the state without causing flooding. “Mainly beneficial rains across the region with strips of higher rainfall along and west of US 131,” the NWS stated in its Monday morning update.
The rainfall map released by NWS highlights widespread precipitation across Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, and Muskegon counties, extending into parts of central Michigan. Most of the region saw between one and two inches over a 24-hour period from September 20–21.
No flood advisories were issued as of Monday morning, but motorists are advised to use caution on wet roads, especially during early commutes. The NWS says additional scattered showers remain possible later this week.
