GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The calm, golden start to the week will soon give way to soaking rain, brisk winds, and the season’s first true taste of late fall across western Michigan. By Tuesday, a slow-moving front will sweep in from the Plains, setting up several rounds of rain and gusts that could rattle through the Grand River Valley and along I-96 through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, conditions stay dry and sunny through early Monday before clouds build late in the day. Showers move in after midnight, becoming widespread by Tuesday afternoon with isolated thunderstorms possible from Holland to Ionia. Gusts may reach 25 mph near Lake Michigan, with brief downpours creating slick roads for both morning and evening commuters.

Wednesday remains unsettled, with showers lingering and a stiff northwest breeze holding highs near 51 °F. By Wednesday night, colder air filters in, pushing lows into the lower 40s—and possibly the upper 30s inland by Thursday morning. That could mark the first frost risk of the season for rural Kent, Ottawa, and Allegan counties if skies clear briefly before sunrise.

Rain tapers Thursday, giving way to brighter skies and more typical late-October chill through the weekend. Highs stay near the mid-50s Friday and Saturday, but models hint another cold push could arrive just before Halloween week, signaling the early edges of a broader Fall Cold Snap across western Michigan.

For now, keep umbrellas and light jackets handy—fall’s mood swing is officially here.
