Grand Rapids, Michigan – Low swim risk and comfortable beach weather continue along West Michigan’s shoreline through Sunday, but scattered thunderstorms could disrupt plans, especially for southern beaches.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, wave heights remain manageable at 1–2 feet today, dropping to just 1 foot Saturday and Sunday. Air temperatures will range from 77–83°F Friday, climbing to a summer peak of 87°F by Sunday. While the swim risk is classified as “low,” meaning wave and current danger is minimal, all beachgoers should stay alert for changing weather—especially storms that may pop up with little warning south of Holland and Grand Haven.

Water temperatures across the region hover between 68–75°F, making for a refreshing swim. However, the NWS urges everyone to wear life jackets and be mindful of weather changes, especially when thunder is heard or lightning is spotted. Local authorities recommend checking for updated advisories if you’re headed to popular beach spots like Muskegon, South Haven, or Saugatuck, and to seek shelter immediately if storms approach.

Swim conditions are expected to remain favorable through Sunday, but another round of advisories could be issued if storms strengthen. Updates are available at weather.gov/GreatLakes/BeachHazards.
