West Glacier, Montana – Drivers crossing Marias Pass and Lookout Pass could face snow-covered pavement and gusts up to 35 mph within hours, with the heaviest impacts building by Monday afternoon and lasting into the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 5 a.m. Monday for the West Glacier Region and at 1 p.m. Monday for the Lower Clark Fork Region, both continuing into Tuesday morning. Valley locations may see 1 to 4 inches, while Essex to Marias Pass could receive 6 to 9 inches. From Taft to Lookout Pass, totals of 4 to 8 inches are likely. Winds could gust to 35 mph, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Across northwest Montana, snow levels will hover near valley floors Monday morning, bringing a wintry mix and slick spots before steadier mountain snow intensifies in the afternoon. Slushy accumulation is expected along I-90 from Lookout Pass to Haugan and along U.S. 2 near Marias Pass. Highway 200 from Thompson Falls to Plains and Trout Creek to Heron may also turn hazardous.

Transportation officials warn of moderate to potentially major disruptions over higher terrain, with possible closures. Motorists should check 511 for road updates, allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary mountain travel through Tuesday morning as advisories remain in effect.
