Los Angeles, California – A wetter-than-normal weather pattern is favored across much of the West Coast from Jan. 7 through Jan. 11, according to the latest outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

The 6–10 day precipitation outlook shows above-normal precipitation likely from Washington and Oregon south through much of California. This signals an active Pacific storm track, with multiple systems potentially reaching the coast during the period.

The 6–10 day temperature outlook favors near- to slightly above-normal temperatures across coastal areas and many inland valleys. While brief cool-downs are possible behind individual systems, prolonged cold is not indicated at this range.

In California, the pattern supports repeated chances for rain, especially along the coast and in valley locations. In the Pacific Northwest, forecasters expect periods of rain at lower elevations and mountain snow in the Cascades, with snow levels fluctuating depending on storm strength and timing.

The Climate Prediction Center notes that these outlooks describe regional trends rather than specific storm timing or intensity. Individual systems may still produce periods of heavier rain, gusty winds, or localized travel impacts.

For commuters, ports, and freight movement along key corridors such as Interstate 5, U.S. 101, and coastal highways, the pattern may bring wet roads, reduced visibility, and intermittent delays, particularly during heavier rainfall.

Residents along the West Coast are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service as the Jan. 7–11 period approaches and forecast confidence continues to increase.
