Anchorage, AK – A series of powerful earthquakes, including two measuring over 6.0 magnitude, has struck near Adak, Alaska, prompting heightened seismic alerts along the West Coast. The ongoing swarm has raised concerns about potential aftershocks or related activity across the Pacific Rim.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the strongest quakes occurred Sunday and early Monday, with magnitudes of 6.3 and 6.1. These events were centered 100 to 130 kilometers south-southwest of Adak at depths of 10 to 19 kilometers. The swarm has also included multiple smaller quakes ranging from 4.0 to 5.7.

This activity comes as Northern California continues to experience aftershocks from last Thursday’s 7.0 quake near Petrolia. The Pacific Rim, known for frequent seismic activity, remains closely monitored as experts warn of the potential for additional significant earthquakes in both regions.

While no injuries or significant damage have been reported in Alaska or California, the National Tsunami Warning Center is on standby. Residents along the West Coast are urged to stay prepared and review emergency plans.

The Alaska earthquakes highlight the seismic volatility of the Aleutian Arc, underscoring the need for vigilance across tectonically active areas.
