Anchorage, AK – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple Gale Warnings across U.S. coastal and offshore waters this weekend, spanning from Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and the Bering Sea to the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic offshore zones.
According to NWS Anchorage, winds in Alaska’s coastal waters are forecast to reach 40 to 45 knots with seas building up to 20 feet through Sunday, November 23, particularly near Nikolski, Adak, and Seguam Pass. Forecasters warn of rough seas and heavy rain expected to persist into early Monday.
Meanwhile, the Ocean Prediction Center in Washington, D.C., reports gale-force winds continuing across the western Atlantic between Baltimore Canyon and Hatteras Canyon, with seas reaching 11 feet and scattered thunderstorms developing overnight.
On the Great Lakes, Marquette and Gaylord NWS offices extended gale warnings for Lake Superior and Lake Huron, where gusts up to 40 knots and 10-foot waves may cause dangerous boating conditions. Mariners are urged to stay in port or seek sheltered harbors until conditions improve.
The NWS advises mariners to review the latest regional marine forecasts and monitor the NOAA Weather Radio for updates before attempting travel.
