Medford, OR – Multiple Gale Warnings remain in effect this weekend along the Pacific Coast from Washington to Northern California, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of dangerous seas reaching 25 to 29 feet in some areas Saturday evening through early Sunday.
According to the Ocean Prediction Center, gale-force winds between 30 and 45 knots and steep, hazardous seas are battering offshore waters from Florence, Oregon, to Point St. George, California. Mariners are being urged to avoid open waters and secure vessels as the system continues to generate powerful west and southwest winds into Sunday morning.
The NWS Medford office reported that seas between 23 and 28 feet are creating extremely rough conditions within 60 nautical miles offshore. A Hazardous Seas Warning will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Sunday, while the Gale Warning expires at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Farther south, gale warnings also extend from Point St. George to Point Arena, California, with winds expected to shift from west to northwest overnight. Offshore Oregon and Washington waters could see repeated surges early next week as additional storm fronts move through.
Meanwhile, on the opposite coast, gale warnings are posted for the western Atlantic waters off Cape Fear, North Carolina, where easterly winds may exceed 40 knots and seas could reach 17 feet by Tuesday.
Mariners across all affected zones are strongly advised to remain in port, monitor official forecasts, and avoid travel until seas subside.
