San Angelo, Texas – Strong storms could hit parts of West Central Texas late Sunday, bringing large hail and gusty winds up to 60 mph to areas including Abilene, Brownwood, and Sweetwater.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place today across the Big Country and far northern portions of the Concho Valley and Heartland. The timing of the strongest storms is expected from late this afternoon through tonight.

Counties at risk include Taylor, Brown, and Nolan, where isolated storms could produce damaging wind gusts, dangerous lightning, and hail up to quarter-size. While the development of storms remains uncertain, forecasters caution that any strong cells moving in from the north could quickly intensify.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and stay weather-aware into the evening. Emergency alerts may be issued if storm strength increases or tracks shift farther south.

Warnings remain possible through Sunday night, with the National Weather Service providing updates at weather.gov/sjt.
