Abilene, TX – Beneficial rainfall fell across much of West Central Texas from Tuesday into Wednesday, with some areas seeing totals exceeding 4 inches.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the heaviest rain was recorded across southern portions of the Big Country, parts of the Concho Valley, and from northern Menard County into southern San Saba County. Totals near Abilene reached between 1.5 and 4 inches, while Menard and Brady measured up to 2 inches.
Rain gauges across the region showed widespread amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch in cities including Ballinger, Coleman, Brownwood, Brady, Mason, and Sterling City. San Angelo itself reported more than 1.5 inches in some locations. Meanwhile, lighter rainfall of a quarter-inch or less was recorded around Ozona and parts of Hamlin.
The rainfall brought needed relief to an area that has faced dry conditions in recent weeks. Despite the welcome totals, the Weather Service noted that generally dry weather is expected to return and persist into early next week.
Drivers were reminded to use caution in areas where heavier rain fell, as some localized ponding and slick roads were reported during the storms.
