Grand Rapids, Michigan – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across parts of central and west central Michigan as snowfall and gusty winds continue to affect travel conditions through Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the advisory includes Mason, Lake, Osceola, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, and Muskegon counties and is scheduled to expire at 1 p.m. EST Sunday.
Forecasters report additional snowfall up to 3 inches, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph Sunday morning. The combination of snow and wind may lead to blowing snow at times, particularly on open roadways, briefly reducing visibility and creating uneven snow coverage.
Communities including Muskegon, Ludington, Hart, Baldwin, Fremont, Reed City, and Big Rapids are expected to see slippery road conditions, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and secondary streets. Conditions may vary significantly over short distances as snow showers move through the region.
The National Weather Service advises drivers to use caution and reduce speeds, noting that even light accumulations can cause hazardous travel when combined with gusty winds and cold pavement temperatures.
While snowfall amounts are expected to remain modest, the advisory coincides with weekend travel and morning errands, increasing the potential for traffic slowdowns and minor accidents.
Road conditions are expected to gradually improve later Sunday afternoon as snowfall diminishes and crews continue cleanup operations.
