According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 9, for portions of west, southwest, central, and south central Michigan.

Southwest to west winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 45 mph and isolated gusts up to 55 mph possible. The strongest winds are forecast to develop first along the Lake Michigan shoreline around 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, then spread eastward through the morning hours, reaching areas such as Lansing and Jackson by approximately 9 a.m.

The National Weather Service reports that the peak wind threat will occur within a few hours of daybreak, coinciding with the passage of a strong cold front. While gusty conditions will persist throughout the day, the most intense winds are expected during the early to mid-morning hours of Friday, Jan. 9.

Areas included in the advisory range from Ludington, Muskegon, Holland, and Grand Haven along the lakeshore to Grand Rapids, Mount Pleasant, Lansing, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, and Jackson farther inland.

Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions, particularly on east–west roadways.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, remain alert for falling debris, and use extra caution while driving during the advisory period.
