Macomb, IL – A Tornado Watch remains active for much of west central Illinois, including Macomb, Monmouth, and Hancock County, until 8 p.m. Friday as severe storms threaten the region.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, Tornado Watch 505 covers Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Warren counties. Cities such as Macomb, Monmouth, Carthage, and Oquawka are in the path of storms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and winds over 60 mph this evening.
Local emergency managers recommend residents review shelter plans and keep mobile devices charged in case of power outages. Areas along U.S. 67 and Illinois Route 336 may see hazardous travel as storms approach. School activities and outdoor events are at risk for sudden cancellation due to weather.
This watch comes during a stretch of unsettled summer weather in western Illinois. The Tornado Watch is set to expire at 8 p.m., but conditions could change—more warnings may follow if severe storms persist. Monitor local alerts and be ready to move to a safe location if a tornado warning is issued.
