Boise, Idaho – Heavy snowfall is expected to impact travel across Idaho’s West Central Mountains beginning early Friday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory through early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, the advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. MST Friday to 5 a.m. MST Saturday for the West Central Mountains, including McCall, Cascade, Warm Lake, Cuprum, Bear, Big Creek, and Ola.

Forecasters expect 4 to 7 inches of snow in valley locations, with up to 14 inches possible at higher mountain elevations. Snowfall rates may be heavy at times, particularly near mountain peaks and along exposed ridgelines.

The National Weather Service warns that roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and hazardous, with travel potentially becoming very difficult to impossible, especially during periods of heavier snowfall. Visibility reductions and rapidly changing road conditions are possible in mountain corridors.

Drivers traveling through mountain communities or higher-elevation routes are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry winter driving supplies. Conditions may deteriorate quickly, particularly overnight and during early morning hours.

Road condition updates for Idaho are available by calling 511, allowing travelers to monitor pass conditions and closures before departure.

Winter Weather Advisories are issued when winter weather is expected to cause significant travel difficulties and hazardous conditions, especially in mountainous terrain.
