Tampa, FL – Tropical Storm Milton is set to bring torrential rain to West Central Florida this week, with some areas expected to receive up to 12 inches of rainfall. A flood watch is in effect through Thursday as forecasters predict widespread flooding and dangerous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the region could see between 5 to 8 inches of rain, with isolated areas experiencing more than 12 inches, especially midweek. The heaviest rain is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday as Tropical Storm Milton approaches from the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is expected to increase moisture in the atmosphere, intensifying rainfall across the region.
Flooding of rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas is a significant concern. Urban areas with poor drainage could also experience extensive street flooding. Emergency officials are urging residents to prepare for the possibility of flash floods by clearing storm drains and securing their homes. Areas already prone to flooding may see conditions worsen rapidly.
Tropical Storm Milton is also expected to bring gusty winds, with speeds potentially reaching up to 40 mph during thunderstorms. The combination of heavy rain and strong winds could lead to downed trees and power outages. Residents should stay informed by monitoring weather updates and be ready to act if flood warnings are issued.
The flood watch remains in place until Thursday morning. With more than a foot of rain possible in certain locations, residents in flood-prone areas should take precautions and have emergency plans in place for the coming days.
