Weld County, CO – A late-night traffic stop on Interstate 25 in Weld County ended with an arrest after a driver was allegedly clocked traveling more than 115 miles per hour, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, a patrol deputy observed an Acura TLX traveling at 115 miles per hour in a posted 75-mile-per-hour zone on I-25 near mile marker 232 at approximately 11:18 p.m. Tuesday night. The deputy activated emergency red and blue lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Authorities said the situation escalated when the Acura continued driving and another uninvolved vehicle attempted to move out of the way. The deputy reported witnessing the Acura nearly rear-end that vehicle while traveling at an estimated 123 miles per hour. The deputy then activated the siren while continuing efforts to stop the car.

After roughly one mile, the driver reportedly yielded and pulled over near mile marker 237. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Jose Alvarez-Hernandez. Following an investigation, the deputy arrested Alvarez-Hernandez on suspicion of multiple offenses, including reckless endangerment, reckless driving, speeding more than 40 miles per hour over the posted limit, driving without a valid driver’s license, and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Officials emphasized that excessive speed places everyone on the roadway at risk, particularly on high-speed interstates like I-25, which serves as a major travel corridor through Northern Colorado.

All charges are allegations. Alvarez-Hernandez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
