Weld County, Colorado – A Weld County man has been charged after deputies say an alleged months-long pattern of harassment caused fear and emotional distress for a former girlfriend.

According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies were dispatched Friday at 6:15 p.m. to a harassment report in the 3500 block of 35th Avenue. The victim reported that she had dated 25-year-old Joseph Trujillo for five years before ending the relationship in November.

Investigators allege that from Nov. 21 to Feb. 6, Trujillo made 916 phone calls to the victim. Deputies said the alleged contacts included repeated voicemails and attempts to reach the victim through alternate phone numbers and social media accounts after she had blocked him.

The sheriff’s office stated that in January, Trujillo allegedly sent repeated text messages claiming he was close by and wanted to come to the victim’s residence, despite her objections. Investigators further allege that between November and December, Trujillo came to the victim’s home three times without invitation.

Deputies concluded that the alleged pattern of communication and conduct resulted in emotional distress and fear for the victim. Based on the investigation, Trujillo was arrested on suspicion of stalking involving emotional distress and harassment involving repeated domestic violence-related calls.

The sheriff’s office urged anyone who believes they may be a victim of stalking to contact local law enforcement immediately, particularly if they feel they are in imminent danger. Officials emphasized the importance of keeping detailed records of incidents, including dates, times, locations and witnesses, and preserving digital evidence to assist investigators.

All charges are allegations. Trujillo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
