Greeley, CO – A 62-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly breaking into the Weld County Public Health Department in Greeley, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the building at 1555 N. 17th Ave. around 7:17 a.m. for reports of a trespassing in progress. The caller reported a propped door and said a man was seen running on the second floor who was not authorized to be there.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and K-9 units set up a perimeter and searched the building, though they were unable to check every office because employees were working. Several offices appeared disturbed, with items scattered on the floor, but no suspect was initially located.
About 90 minutes later, around 8:52 a.m., deputies were called back to the scene when an employee discovered a man sleeping under a desk in a locked office that had not been searched earlier. Deputies arrested Michael Jackson, 62, on suspicion of second-degree burglary, petty theft, criminal mischief, and second-degree criminal tampering.
No injuries were reported, and officials said there is no danger to the public.
All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
