Weld County, CO – A Weld County deputy arrested a man early this week after allegedly driving 106 miles per hour on Highway 85 near Eaton, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy clocked a Chevy Impala traveling southbound at 106 mph in a 65-mph zone before pulling the vehicle over. The driver, identified as John Maes Jr., reportedly showed signs of intoxication when the deputy approached.

According to investigators, Maes Jr. had a revoked license and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Deputies said several open and empty Fireball whiskey bottles were discovered inside the vehicle during a search.

Maes Jr. faces multiple charges, including driving under restraint, failure to drive in a single lane, speeding between 20–24 mph over the limit, and driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.

So far this year, Weld County patrol deputies have arrested 118 drivers for DUI. Sheriff’s officials emphasized their continued focus on keeping local roads safe from impaired and reckless drivers.

All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
