San Francisco, CA – Dangerous surf conditions and widespread rain are expected across the Bay Area this weekend as a high surf advisory remains in effect through Monday night. Waves as high as 19 feet could impact beaches, increasing the risk of dangerous rip currents and localized erosion.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory began at 9 a.m. Saturday and will last until 9 p.m. Monday. A strong westerly swell with 10- to 11-foot waves is pushing powerful breakers onto Bay Area beaches, including Point Reyes, the San Francisco Peninsula, and the Big Sur coast.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay out of the water, as sneaker waves can unexpectedly surge far up the beach, knocking people off their feet and pulling them into the ocean. Coastal flooding and floating debris, including driftwood, pose additional risks.
Alongside dangerous surf, the forecast calls for increasing rain through Sunday. Showers will begin Saturday evening, with an 80% chance of rain on Sunday. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs near 58°F and lows around 48°F.
Looking ahead, more rain is expected through midweek, with showers likely Monday through Wednesday. Travelers should prepare for wet roads and potential delays.
Beachgoers should exercise extreme caution, and inexperienced swimmers should avoid entering the water. Stay updated on conditions through the National Weather Service and local advisories.
