Philadelphia, PA – Severe thunderstorms are likely to roll into the Philadelphia area by late Saturday, bringing a risk of flash flooding, damaging winds, and intense downpours through the night.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm window opens around 6 p.m., with some of the heaviest rainfall and lightning expected between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday. A few storms may become severe. Rainfall totals could range from a quarter inch to over a half inch in spots, with isolated areas seeing even higher amounts. Temperatures will reach near 88°F during the day before dropping to the low 60s overnight.

Travelers along I-95, US-1, and local roadways should be cautious, especially after sundown when visibility and road conditions could rapidly deteriorate. Power outages are possible if wind gusts down tree limbs or power lines. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and charge electronic devices ahead of time.

Conditions improve by Sunday morning, with skies gradually clearing and highs in the low 70s. Sunny, dry weather is expected to return for the start of the workweek.
