Detroit, Michigan – Strong storms packing 60 mph winds and torrential rain could impact much of southern Michigan from 2 to 10 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with a Slight Risk of severe weather in place for Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit.

A Marginal Risk continues today, Friday, but storm chances rise over the weekend as multiple rounds of thunderstorms move west to east at roughly 35 mph. Saturday’s storms are expected to sweep through from the southwest to northeast and carry the greatest potential for damaging wind gusts, localized flooding, and small hail.

Cities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, and Lansing are all within the Slight Risk zone for Saturday. Sunday’s storms carry a lower—but still present—risk, mainly affecting southeastern Michigan during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Drivers should plan for possible delays on I-75, I-94, and I-96, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items and monitor local alerts. Power outages could occur where winds are strongest.

This active pattern may continue into early next week. Stay weather-aware and be prepared to take shelter quickly if warnings are issued.
