Springfield, Ill. – Drivers across central Illinois could face dense fog late tonight into Friday morning, especially along and north of Interstate 74. The National Weather Service warns visibility may be sharply reduced, raising travel concerns for commuters at daybreak.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures will remain seasonable Friday, reaching the low 80s with lingering humidity. A weak cold front slides through the state Saturday, bringing a 20% chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon and evening.

Peoria, Bloomington, and surrounding counties are most likely to see fog-related slowdowns early Friday, while Springfield could see the best chance for a brief storm late Saturday. Outdoor events and late-day travel may be impacted if storms develop, though most of the region will stay dry.

Cooler, fall-like air settles into the region Sunday, dropping highs into the mid-70s. Forecasters say this refreshing trend should continue into early next week.
