Pueblo, Colorado – A heatwave is sweeping across Colorado this weekend, with temperatures soaring into the low 100s in some areas. The National Weather Service warns of a dry and mostly sunny weekend, with minimal chances for thunderstorms. As temperatures climb, the plains will feel the most intense heat, while the valleys will hover around the 80s and low 90s.

According to the NWS Pueblo, temperatures in areas like Lamar and La Junta are forecasted to hit 101°F by Saturday afternoon, with other cities such as Colorado Springs and Pueblo reaching the mid to upper 90s. With these high temps, experts are urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure.

Across the state, the plains are the hottest, with highs expected to be well into the 90s to low 100s. Travelers should take extra care on the roads, especially as some areas could see elevated fire risks due to the dry air. The valleys will be slightly cooler, but still warm, with cities like Buena Vista and Leadville topping out in the 80s.

Local officials recommend wearing lightweight, loose clothing and taking frequent water breaks. People should also keep pets indoors to avoid heat stress.

With little to no precipitation expected, this hot spell could last through the weekend, with temperatures moderating slightly into next week.
