Cheyenne, WY — A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for Cheyenne and surrounding areas as warm, dry conditions and gusty winds create high fire danger. The warning, issued early Thursday, advises residents to be alert as winds could reach up to 50 MPH this afternoon and evening, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, low humidity, combined with south to southwest winds between 40 and 50 MPH, is expected to create hazardous fire conditions until at least 8 p.m. Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor activities that could spark a fire and follow local safety guidelines. Temperatures are expected to reach highs in the upper 80s, with gusts adding to the challenge of containment should any fires break out.

As the weekend approaches, weather conditions will remain relatively dry, with cooler temperatures in the 70s forecast for Friday and Saturday. However, the fire danger may persist due to low humidity. The public is encouraged to monitor updates and avoid activities like grilling or burning that could inadvertently cause fires.
