Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians will enjoy a break from muggy conditions today, with mostly sunny skies and cooler highs across much of the state following a cold front’s passage late Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, temperatures will hover in the low to mid-80s across the lowlands, with Charleston reaching 85°F, Huntington 88°F, and Parkersburg 87°F. Isolated thunderstorms remain possible after 3 p.m., mainly in mountain areas such as Elkins and Beckley, where afternoon highs will top out at 82°F and 80°F, respectively.
Skies are expected to stay clear in Clarksburg and other low-lying regions, but residents in the higher elevations should remain weather-aware. Lightning and brief downpours could disrupt outdoor plans or Fourth of July event preparations, especially along mountain roads or open spaces.
Those in affected areas should avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorm periods and keep devices charged in case of power outages. With drier air settling in, today marks a welcome cooldown compared to the recent stretch of muggy days.
More showers could return later this week, so stay tuned for updates ahead of the holiday weekend.
