Gaylord, MI – A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is set to impact Northern Lower Michigan on Monday, creating hazardous travel conditions just as residents celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Temperatures will drop throughout the day, with gusty winds adding to the challenges on the roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, precipitation will begin early Monday morning, starting as rain before transitioning into snow. Areas along I-75 and U.S. 131 may experience slick roadways, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Snowfall totals could reach 2-6 inches, with a light glaze of ice possible in some locations. Winds will gust up to 40 mph, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.

By Monday night, conditions will clear slightly, but temperatures will plunge into the teens, leading to refreezing on untreated surfaces. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

Looking Ahead: First Day of Spring Brings a Warm-Up

After Monday’s storm, Michigan will see a brief warm-up. Tuesday will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-50s. However, another round of rain is expected Wednesday before colder air returns late in the week.

Spring officially begins Thursday, March 20, but winter’s grip isn’t loosening just yet. Stay prepared for fluctuating conditions as the season changes.
