Billings, MT – A high wind warning is in effect across several areas of Montana and Wyoming today, with gusts up to 65 mph expected. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution or consider postponing travel until conditions improve.

The National Weather Service issued the warning for parts of Fallon, Powder River, and Carter counties in Montana, as well as the Sheridan Foothills in Wyoming. Northwest winds will reach speeds of 30 to 40 mph, peaking in the afternoon and tapering off by evening. These winds pose significant risks, including making driving hazardous, particularly on highways and roads with open terrain.

According to the National Weather Service, people should secure loose objects and avoid outdoor activities that could be affected by the high winds. Snowfall is also expected in certain areas, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile at times.

Billings High Wind Warning: Winds to Reach 65 MPH Until 6 PM According to NWS Billings, the high winds in the affected areas will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, with peak gusts occurring mid-afternoon. Authorities advise that residents take precautions, including staying indoors during the worst of the winds.

For those in Petroleum County, Montana, the warning will remain in effect until 3 p.m. MDT, with snow and low visibility expected to make travel even more challenging. Motorists are urged to avoid travel if possible and to be prepared for possible power outages due to wind damage.
