Omaha, NE – Southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa are under a severe weather alert as strong to severe storms are expected from tonight into Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports a 60-80% chance of thunderstorms developing overnight, with some storms potentially reaching severe levels, particularly in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, where the chance of severe storms is between 5-15%.

Localized flooding, hail up to one inch in diameter, and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are the primary hazards. Another round of storms is anticipated Wednesday afternoon into the evening, bringing an additional 10-20% chance of severe weather to the region. The NWS emphasizes that the threat level remains moderate, with the highest risk areas including Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas, and to secure outdoor objects that could be damaged by high winds. The NWS also recommends monitoring local weather updates as conditions could change rapidly. Temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-80s Wednesday before clearing out by Thursday, with drier conditions anticipated through the weekend.
