Omaha, Nebraska – Severe thunderstorms will push through eastern Nebraska and parts of western Iowa overnight, bringing the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning until 8 a.m. Saturday. The storms could disrupt early travel, sporting events, and outdoor plans as conditions rapidly deteriorate.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, isolated hail up to ping-pong ball size and scattered wind gusts reaching 75 mph are possible in areas including Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Columbus, York, Blair, and Harlan, Iowa. The watch covers more than 1.6 million people across the region, along with hundreds of schools and dozens of hospitals.

Emergency managers warn that falling tree limbs and power outages are possible if the strongest storms hit urban areas. Motorists should avoid flooded intersections, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items before winds pick up. Lightning may also cause localized fires and power disruptions.

Storm chances should decrease by mid-morning Saturday, but additional alerts may be issued if new cells develop.
